Hit Songs Deconstructed (www.HitSongsDeconstructed.com) last week released its latest hit song trend report, The State of the Hot 100 Top 10: Q1 2021.
This comprehensive 100+ page report provides critical insight into the compositional trends shaping the songs that chart in the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 and the artists, writers, producers and labels behind them.
A few highlights from the report include:
- Within the hip hop genre, the percentage of songs with a featured artist surpassed those without in Q1 2021
- After declining throughout 2019, R&B’s influence on the Hot 100 Top 10 hits has steadily increased quarter-over-quarter from 17% in Q1 2020 to 50% of Top 10 hits in Q1 2021
- Hip hop as a primary genre has been on a quarter-over-quarter decline among Hot 100 Top 10 hits, dropping from 48% of the Top 10 in Q2 2020 to 29% in Q1 2021
