Ideas have the power to shape our world.  Many ideas are held on to and kept secret in fear that someone else will take them. When ideas are not freely shared they will only have one generation.

Ideas can be crafted in such a way that they can be shared, spread, and morphed by other people. This way the ideas begins to split into ever evolving fractals of the original.

An example of this is the work of Isaac Cotec, aka Subaqueous. He is doing this through his collaboration in art and music.  The Subaqueous website has a huge collection of free resources, instruments, and knowledge around music production.

Isaac Cotec explained his vision by saying this;

I have been devoting myself to my craft for years. I spend countless hours creating tools and instruments to use in my music. I could hold my sound and not share it, but then all that work might go into a single track. I would much rather share what I created as see others use it in there own creative works. This way I become a conduit for not only my own musical journey, but for others as well.

Recently Isaac Cotec took this vision a step further through his Kickstarter for the Subaqueous USB Splash Drive, and Remix Album. The USB Drive is filled with his custom instruments, his full discography, and even remix stems.  This way any other musician can have access to his huge production library and even collaborate through new remixes.

Sharing tools like this is a new way for the ever evolving fractal in nature.

Isaac Cotec’s vision of sharing knowledge touch onto a deeper subject of education and mentorship. At Awaken festival he held a panel discussion on internationalizing music where he said:

As an electronic musician it’s important that you are constantly connecting with your peers that have more developed skills then you. That way you can learn new concepts and further your craft. Then in turn it is important that you share the knowledge to those looking to learn.  That way you allow the knowledge to pass through you in a continuous cycle.

This idea of letting knowledge mover through you would also lead to a legacy of knowledge. You can see this in deeply developed musical traditions such as Tabla players, The chinese Gu Zheng, and others.

Subaqueous kickstarer isn’t the only project that is pushing towards a more collaborative culture.  Skytree released his Indigogo Campaign on the same day with a similar message. Through his crowdfunding campaign he is asking his fans to support the new album as well as collaborate on bringing more visual arts and crafts with it.

Phutureprimitive is another example of how electronic music can creatively bring about collaboration. His Fan-Fueled Official Music Video Contest invites his fans to help create the music video with him.

This movement towards an open source music and fan collaboration is just one way we are bringing forth the world we want to see. Join the movement by supporting Subaqueous’s Kickstarter and grab one of his USB Splash Drives.  Then you can take his crafts and fractalize them into your own music and art.
