Eddie Owen Presents to Launch Open Mic Project –
A Global Platform for the Performing Singer-Songwriter

The OMP Experience is About Discovering New Music, New Talent, and New Collaborators –

Always Open. Always On. Always Waiting to be Discovered.

05.10.2013 (Atlanta, Georgia) — Eddie Owen Presents is proud to announce the launch of Open Mic Project (OMP) – a global music platform that provides artists and fans a new means to connect. OMP is the first crowd-sourced label a digital live performance listening experience and live performance portal, streaming and archiving the magic of original moments. OMP will launch May 31 from the Red Clay Theatre in Duluth, Georgia adding new venues in the coming month. OMP’s mission is to connect new artists with fans from across the country via an online portal that captures the authenticity of live performances from new and emerging artists and streams and archives them at OMPlive.com.

On May 31st and June 1st, Eddie Owen Presents (EOP) unveils the beginnings of Open Mic Project (OMP), at OMPLive.com, with two showcase events:

Eddie Owen lives for the magical spaces where music can be heard and great talent discovered. Over the years he’s discovered some greats: John Mayer, Shawn Mullins, Sugarland, India Arie, and The Civil Wars to name a few. Owen’s ear for talent and his dedication to creating a sacred space for performers made Decatur’s Eddie’s Attic a place of national renown. Today, he calls Red Clay Theatre in Duluth home.

In 1994, Owen started Songwriter’s Open Mic Monday, a weekly contest where artists could perform two songs for one judge: Owen. Winners were invited back for the Bi-Annual Shootout, a single elimination tournament. The impressive list of winners, including John Mayer and Jennifer Nettles, would go on to headline and pack the Attic as weekend headliners for years to come.

Owen’s knack for uncovering talent has been honed by witnessing thousands of performances, and he says he looks for one essential ingredient. “They all worked their asses off, and they’re all talented, but if you don’t have the songs, you can’t get there,” he said.

Open Mic Project is more than just a songwriter’s competition; It’s a dynamic platform for musical exploration, collaboration, and discovery for three essential constituents: artists, audiences, and music venues. The vision is to inspire a community that creates, collaborates, and connects. With a dynamic online portal designed to serve as a hub of discovery and interaction. The, the idea of the once-small open mic opens up to the world, encouraging all to share their discoveries on the network, through live streamed events, large and small, connecting without limits. Through this deeper engagement with the artists via social media and the online portal, the world of small club performances becomes more accessible, more engaging, and more connected. And along the way, more than a few stars will be discovered.

Interviews available upon request.
