Teamwork In The Music Industry


Sometimes two teammates argue and disagree. They fuss and beef out of a shared passion to succeed. This is where the coach steps in to get everybody on the same page.


When a team member refuses to get along with a coach – then the coach or the player has to find another team. #ItsThatSimple


In a professional setting, the team member may feel a personal betrayal and become emotional. But, no matter how the coach feels, he or she understands that the team is a business.


One individual can never be allowed to undermine or destroy a successful business. If a player isn’t happy and wants to leave – they should be allowed to continue their career elsewhere. Each team needs players who will benefit the team as a whole – this benefits the business as well – because the team IS a business.


In the music industry - sometimes I’m a team member. When I don’t agree with the coach or the owner – I have to go in a different direction – do my own thing. I try to prevent this as much as possible by only joining those team that truly believe in helping indie artists.


Other times I’m the coach – recruiting and cutting team members, strategizing ways to win, racking my brain trying to find roster space for the hard workers, helping to hone and develop their talent, mentoring the ones who have a high music industry IQ – preparing them to be coaches and owners themselves.


With my own brands – I’m the owner. I hire & fire coaches – I deal with team members – I try to keep us all focused on the same goals and vision. I’m kind of like Ace’s character in Paid in Full, because on my team “Everybody Eats” — whether I have to feed each person or teach them how to feed themselves – Everybody Eats.


(Money is NEVER my motivation. Money is necessary to survive in this society – but I never panic to get it. I have EVERYTHING that I own today because of the help I’ve given others. That’s not just a line – that’s the TRUTH!)


My point in this whole matter is: A team stands to gain the greatest benefit when the players are united under the coach’s vision – and the coach has the support of the ownership. One player trying to show off or play another person’s position will only lead to discord, confusion and increased losses for the whole team.



If you ever have the opportunity to be part of an elite team….play your position to the absolute best of your ability. Don’t bitch because the next member gets more “shine” than you. Just do your part and believe in the coach’s vision. When the championship accolades are handed out, you don’t have to be the MVP. Isn’t winning consistently enough???

I could not agree more….as John Maxwell says, "Teamwork makes the dream work." No artist can possibly it do everything himself…if he wants to be the best artist he can possibly be.
