Think Tank Talk > Internet Music Collaboration
This is a good one
Here's a thread all about it over at Gearslutz:Esession on Geaslutz
I haven't used it for any projects yet, but like many people it looks like a good way to both get work in and farm work out.
Hi,
The thought of an Internet Collaboration has always called my attention, but unfortunately I've never gotten around to it.
However, I checked out your website THENETSTUDIO.COM and it sounds like a promising project! I had not seen or heard something like it before. It is a great way to connect with musicians all around the world and create great music all in one website.
I would say that if you wan to create the perfect music collaboration system, and I know you mentioned it already in your ABOUT section, you would have to create some kind of free and easy-to-use recoding platform for everyone who signs up. That way it would be much easier for people to achieve the whole purpose of the site which is connect with each other and create music.
Also in order to keep the website a little more controlled and efficient, maybe you should create some kind of "audition-like" section, where people are required to submit a small pre-selected piece of music, scale, or whatever...in order to filter out member and divide them by skill levels (Of course, without discriminating anyone)
I wish you success in your project.
I will help by signing up. Is the community already active?
Good luck!
Julian...
Thanks for the pointer to that thread. I'll read through it, It looks like there are a lot of great suggestions.
Jose...
Great suggestions!
I have a tutorial on the site that shows how to get started using free software.

This has been a real challenge for me because I agree that creating a simple to use recording systems is very desirable - but I just had to decide where I would focus my efforts - So I decided to focus on creating the best Internet collaboration system I could think of, My plan is to eventually find a way to integrate with existing DAW software, but just getting all the features I have in my head is taking a lot of time.
I also struggled with the "audition" piece. I agree it is a part of any good collaboration (online or off-line) to know what each musician sounds like. So there is an "audition" capability in each members profiles. It allows people to know what others sound like - but it is optional. I am also toying with a rating system for the community to rate members - but I don't want to make it exclusionary, so I need to think it through.
Right now there are a number of projects going on in the system - but not the amount I want to see. I am asking everyone what they think so I can encourage more musicians to give it a try.
Thanks for your ideas.
You're welcome...(sorry, I don't know your name)
I'm glad to hear you got most of those issues under control.
I like the rating system idea!
Well, since we are inputting ideas here, I was actually brainstorming on the subject and another cool idea which will get people and users more connected to the website, is to offer them prizes. For example, throw a contest every month or 2 months for "best song of the month"... have a deadline for bands or project to summit 1 song and pick the winner by Votes or Ratings from the other users on the site!...that would make your users feel like they were more part of the website. It's a cool approach for bands to connect with other bads or projects in the website.
What do you think?
