Think Tank Talk > A difference between men and women

Just talked to Elizabeth (the other half of Blue Star) about this site, and the discussion about how to reach fans, the 100 fans thread etc.

She came up with a very interesting statement regarding CD / download sales:"Women have different reasons to buy something than men. Women often buy things not only for themselves, but as a present for somebody else. Or maybe because it makes them feel good. Men tend to buy things they admire, that associates them with something big and powerful".

I'm not sure if that is completely true, but the fact that the audience / fans are part male part female is worth considering...

These are helpful things to bear in mind. And perhaps you could go beyond that into the realm of 'people are complicated'. There are different uses and gratifications for your music. Some may be gender split, others may be culturally spun. Age, geography and psychographics all play a role too.

The key message here is to get beyond 'how would I want to consume this?' and into 'how might different people choose to consume this?'
