About 8 months ago, me and an amateur musician friend of mine living in Toronto were trying to collaborate on a few tracks for his upcoming album.

I created instrumentals and he wanted to sing over them.
We were both excited about working together on a project, but when it came time to communicate our musical ideas online, the process proved to be a daunting task.

Every time we had a new melody or rhythm that we wanted to share, we’d have to either send large sound files by email, or upload several private soundcloud tracks, all which took way too much time to keep doing repeatedly, and slowed down the creative process.

I would often view my stats page on soundcloud and see that he’d played the same song over 20 times while trying to sing melodies and write lyrics, but being on the opposite side of the screen, I couldn’t hear a single thing he was creating.

His lack of music software experience meant that we couldn’t work in a virtual studio, and our busy schedules didn’t allow us time to sift through all the email files to try and piece together a song idea.

2 months later, a backlog of emailed sound files, and barely half a song into the project, we had both lost creative interest and moved on.

As I looked back at that experience I kept wondering; how could we have made the process easier and more efficient?”

This is how; with Pickasound…

**What is Pickasound?**

Pickasound embodies a social network with a greater purpose; the free expression and communication of musical ideas online.
By Simply recording yourself live, or uploading any sound clips from your computer, unto our waveform music player, you can connect your voice and instruments to others without having to send email files back and forth, or engage in complex virtual studio software.

Today, people are interconnected in a global community that is constantly sharing information and ideas. Through this, the online music world has perfected the concept of “art on display”; whereby musical content, is effectively packaged, then neatly presented to an audience to take or leave as they go.
On Pickasound, we believe that music is dynamic and should constantly be altered and shared with the creative input of the online community.

As a musician, what better way to gain positive feedback than to have your fans sing backing vocals for you?
Or what better way to promote your work than to have multiple artists collaborate with you, then share your music to Facebook and Twitter as part of their own works?

The Internet has fostered an explosion of amateur musicians who’s very existence is the direct result of the creative works of others; enabling everyday people to sing cover songs, build onto melodies, create remixes, and discover talents they never knew they had.

By bringing all of these people together, we are essentially creating a movement for the free expression musical ideas online.
