A Note From The Editor: Seeking New Authors, Spam Problems, And The Hit Song Contest

Afternoon all,

Hope everything is well; I have a few things I wanted to bring to your attention.

Since the beginning, Music Think Tank as served as a platform and sounding board for a collective of some of the leading thinkers and change makers in the tech and music industries.  At present, I am looking to expand the author base and scope of the blog just a little bit wider, in hopes of bringing in even more great content. If you have something great that you’ve seen or have written recently, maybe even a big idea you’ve been kicking around, please get in touch. I would be interested in featuring your insights. As standing editor, my standards are indefinitely high, but I’d love to hear what you have in mind.

Also, you may have noticed that I’ve recently turned on the comment moderation system.  I’m very sorry if it ends up slowing down the speed of the fascinating and intelligent conversations that occur on the site every day.  However, there was a serious spam problem and in order to preserve the quality of the site, as well as, your experience at it, I decided it was best that I approve every single comment myself.

Finally, Bruce and I over at Hypebot have launched an exciting contest with over $5,000 in prizes. The catch is that I wrote the first data-driven hit song and would like you to write a the music and perform a cover of my song lyric. July 27th through September 7th, I will be accepting entries into The Hypebot Hit Song Contest. The voting process will be taking place throughout the competition; winners will be finalized and issued on September 8th. There will be one grand prize winner and three runner-ups.

To enter the contest, follow these steps:
  1. Visit this page and grab the lyrics.
  2. Record an orignal cover of the song.
  3. Upload your creation to our SoundCloud page.
  4. Wait through the voting process.
  5. (Hopefully) Claim your prizes.

Cheers,

-Kyle Bylin, Editor of Music Think Tank and Hypebot

"Break forever Shawty..."

What data drove that line, Kyle?

What I meant was, I can't believe 'shawty' featured in more than one song, which one was it? Must have been huge!

^^Tim, the Google Trends page for Shawty was hilariously instructive.

Actual headline from USA Today in 2007: "Rappers flirt with the word 'shawty'"

Looks like it's a southern states thing... ...after Valley Girl speak took over the world it's time for the good ole boys... can't see it catching on with the Hoxton youth, though
