Why You Shouldn’t Wash on Tour

If you’ve been on tour before, you’ll know it can be a smelly place. With a good night’s sleep hard to find it can soon become a place of unrest, arguments and poor personal hygiene.

But trust me when I say, you really shouldn’t wash on tour.

Not too long ago I was told a story of a band on tour in Australia. They’d been away for a while and it wasn’t long before the stench became too much amongst these blokes and they knew that one of them would soon have to wash. One brave soul couldn’t take it anymore and ran himself a bath in his hotel room. It had been so long since he had taken a bath that he had forgotten just how quickly they could fill up.

Soon, not only his bathroom, but the bathrooms of the floor beneath him had filled with water.

Now we all know this was just a simple mistake and you definitely should wash on tour if you do get the chance. But the main principle here is that accidents can and do happen and it is important to take proper precautions. You need to be careful along the way (I’m sure your mothers all taught you that) whilst also being smart.

Insurance is often dismissed and seen as a boring subject that is easily over looked when it comes to touring. However, situations like the above becomes more of “D’oh” moment instead of a “How are we all going to pay for this?” moment when you have yourselves, your equipment and your fans insured.

If you’re touring you will be moving your equipment around. What happens if you damage it in transit or have it stolen when you leave the van in a car park for a few hours? These and many more issues are factors which you should be considering when it comes to keeping yourselves and your equipment safe.
It’s not just touring bands that need to consider insurance, it’s whether you’re just gigging or if you’re a music professional and even if you own your own studio that you rent out there is insurance that can help protect you from accidents and even adverse weather if you’re a festival.

It’s impossible to predict the future and anything could happen from one place to the next. It doesn’t matter what stage you are at in your music career there is still a possible need for insurance. Insurance companies like Music Insurance Brokers  are able to tailor insurance to your needs, whether you want a one off payment or an ongoing contract.
