Artist will put a tag cloud on her back to raise money for her next album.

Coming on the heals of Bob Baker’s latest Music Think Tank post on Fan Funded Models, here’s another viable alternative to consider:

An artist from Los Angeles is offering to turn her back into a giant Tag Cloud to raise money for her next album.

Artist Grasmaand First told Music Think Tank that the tag cloud on her back will generate over $100,000 to fund her next album. $40,000 will be used for production and the remaining $60,000 will go toward promotion.

Grasmaand confidently says “the larger the donation, the larger the font size”. She goes onto say that she is also considering logos, as she calculates that the cost per 1,000 impressions (to an advertiser) over her lifetime is exceptionally low. (hmm?)

When asked about low lighting or visibility from the stage, Grasmaand responded “there are plenty of people that get to read my back up close (I am assuming she means from the front rows of her shows?). If that doesn’t work, buy the CD!”

There you have it - more proof that truly committed artists will do whatever it takes to fund and promote their music.

Out of respect for Grasmaand, no sexual comments please.

Hmmm... funny that Grasmaand is Dutch for April.

I think they should consider getting a mySpace page in the first instance :)

Clearly, this is the future of the music industry :-)

This was a clever one. "there are plenty of people that get to read my back up close" definitely tipped the author's Apr. 1st hand, though.

However, I gotta point out: we're already living in the post-fleshbranding age. Anyone remember Golden Palace.com getting tattooed across that poor blonde lady's forehead?

There's a lot more examples here:

Grasmaand is Dutch for April.. Grasmaand First is April First. It was my April Fool's day joke.

Cheers,

This guy is tattooing initials for every $50 donation to his gas tank fund:
