A Rich-Kid's Game?

As a struggling artist (aren’t we all?), have you ever noticed that those who struggle the least seem to get the most success?

Let’s look at an example. Let’s call him A. West…..no wait, that’s too obvious. Let’s call him Anthony W. Anthony W used to front an underground, but rising band in the UK. This band did a tour as they were just breaking through, and claimed to let a band from each of the cities they were visiting open for them, all they had to do was get their fans to go and like them on Facebook and comment their preferred band’s name on a status. Now obviously, unsigned bands across the country jumped at the opportunity, and essentially fed all their fans to them, all the while blissfully unaware that they were being duped. Anthony W’s band knew full well who they wanted to support them, evidenced by the fact that two of the chosen bands had members very closely related to each other, who just so happened to all be the sons of the guitarist of an internationally famous, household-name-legendary band.

Naughty Anthony W, how very unethical. This didn’t go unnoticed by some (read: me), and I did some more research. Anthony W’s band’s success started when they won an International Battle of the Bands and were allowed to play the Taste Of Chaos at the sweet young age of around 16/17. Because clearly they were the best band around at that age. They also had their debut mini album released on the cover of Rock Sound Magazine. Because that just happens. It had nothing to do with the fact that Anthony W’s grandfather was a massively successful novelist, selling of 60 million novels worldwide, and being honoured by the Queen. Nothing at all.

Eventually, young Anthony W’s band folded, and the world was sad. He’s now doing quite well for himself in a new two piece outfit with a young lady who shares a surname with some famous 18th century art dealers and lives in a £1.5 million house in London. How can I describe their music? It’s simply……oh…wonderous! He just can’t imagine how Rick Rubin has been in touch about their music…
